Grassroots Sideways: Drift Cars in the Pits
By Devin B.
Drift cars tell on themselves. You can read how a car gets used just by looking at what has been removed, what has been replaced with tube and what has been left scuffed because it will only get scuffed again.
This short set from Las Vegas keeps it at the grassroots end of the scene. There is a drift car in a red and white livery sitting in the pits, and a silver Lexus IS with a tube front bumper and its hood open. A tube bumper is a simple tell. Plastic bumpers do not last long when you trade paint with walls, so builders swap them for something that can take a hit and be straightened out.
This is the part of drifting that doesn't need a grandstand. It takes a car, some tires and a place to slide. Here is what that looks like up close.
